Check the SDK section of the Launch On menu in the main toolbar to update SDK. Would you like to attempt to continue anyway? Alright, so you just finished making an awesome game in the brand new Unreal Engine 5 and you go to package it for Windows and you get this error - “SDK Not Setup.” So how do you fix this warning? If you are packaging the game for Windows, the first thing you need to do is install the latest version of the Windows SDK. Go to your search engine of choice and search for “Windows SDK” and it should be the first result. So the address should be developer.microsoft.com/ your language and region /windows/downloads/windows-sdk/. Alright, so as it says here this is the “SDK for Windows 11” but don’t worry if you don’t have Windows 11. This works for Windows 7 and up. And then down here, you just click on this button to download the installer, and once it finishes downloading just run that and follow the instructions in order to install the SDK. Next, go to the Unreal Engine 5 installation folder, which by default is located in C:\Program Files\Epic Games. Click on the folder for the version you’re trying to package for. Then go to Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\DotNet\Windows\host\fxr and, finally, 3.1.9. Use Ctrl+C to copy the hostfxr.dll file, then go back to the Engine\Binaries folder. From there go to DotNET\AutomationTool, and then use Ctrl+V to paste the dll file into this folder. Finally, open a search engine again and search for “.net core 3.1” and look for the link to dotnet.microsoft.com that says “Download .NET Core 3.1.” And then click on the link for the 64-bit SDK installer. This will download an executable file. Once the file finishes downloading, run it to install this SDK. Okay, and once you’ve completed those three steps you should be able to go back to Platforms - Windows - Package Project and be able to package your project without any errors.

Would you like to attempt to continue anyway? I know that my UE5 package works on IOS 15.x The only SDK I have is now iphoneos16.0 From my google search, I may need to download and install an older version of Xcode and copy the SDK file over. However, I ended up just launching the old version as a temporary workaround. This video will show you how. To do this, you will need to package the game. But first, you need to configure the settings. So go to Edit - Project Settings, then to the Description page. Select a 192 x 192 image to use as the thumbnail for the game. Then, write a short description for the game and give it a name. Then, down in the Displayed category, the Project Displayed Title specifies what to display in the game window’s title bar. After you have these settings to your liking, go to the Maps & Modes page. You will need to set the Game Default Map to whichever Level you want the game to start with. Now go to the Packaging page. The Build Configuration can be set to either Development or Shipping. Development will give you access to debugging features within the packaged game, but the file size will be much larger. For games that you intend to publish, or distribute to others, you would set this to Shipping. Okay, so now scroll down to the Platforms category and click on the platform you’re packaging for. So I’m going to select Windows. At the top, you can select the Rendering Hardware Interfaces you want to target. We’ll just leave this targeting DirectX 11 and 12 which is the default, but you can target others if you wish. And then at the bottom you can specify images to use when you load the game, and an image to use for the Game Icon. Okay, so when you have these settings to your liking, go back to the Level Editor. And then click the Platforms button in the Toolbar, hover over the platform you are targeting, then click on “Package Project.” If you get an error that says “SDK Not Setup” you’ll need to follow the steps in this video to resolve that error. If you don’t get the error, you can then choose the folder where you want to save the packaged files and click “Select Folder.” So this will package the game, and once it’s finished you will be able to go to the folder you specified and run the game from there. Note that packaging takes a relatively long time though, so don’t expect it to complete in a few seconds or even a few minutes. Exactly how long it takes depends on the project and on the computer, but, in general, it will use a lot of processing power and will take a while to complete.

Sometimes when you have worked on a project for a while it will not load anymore or it will crash when it comes to building time. Why? Most often it is because you have added something or changed something important recently. While this solution seems pretty simple, it is the simplest thing that causes the problems usually. Always try and keep a log of the changes you make on a daily basis if you do not keep a change management system and always be prepared to roll back and always, always keep backups.
