Real-time VFX Reel. Using Unreal engine 4 and 5, Houdini and Maya.
This was the first time we used Ue4 in compositing with real footage. I was surprised that Unreal Engine rendered frames faster than After Effects)). Yes, this is definitely the future! #unrealengine #unrealengine4 #rtx #vfx #cg #aftereffects #compositing #makingof #cameratracking

Almost everything you want to ask me has already been answered in the comments. Please read before you ask! Music: Self produced I combine live characters with 3D scenes created in Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine levels are not created by me. I use UE Marketplace assets with some custom adjustments. The live actors were shot in a green screen studio and added into the Unreal Engine scenes. Lighting effects were created with pre-programmed moving spot lights and projectors.
This is my VFX Reel for 2019. If you like it, you can follow me on artstation: 🤍 Thanks for watching! David Royalty Free Music from 🤍 Various characters from Epic Paragon, Sketchfab and Turbosquid.
Real-time technology is transforming the art of filmmaking, with next-generation virtual production tools coming to Unreal Engine. At SIGGRAPH, Epic Games partnered with Lux Machina, Magnopus, Profile Studios, Quixel, ARRI, and DP Matt Workman to demonstrate how LED walls can provide not only virtual environments but also lighting for real-world elements, so the entire scene can be captured in camera in a single pass. Unreal Engine 4 VFX and shaders reel I've made as fast as I could. Cause had no time to edit my vfx for demo purposes without main project.

All made with Unreal Engine! I like to work on “unique” VFX, but I can also do the standard stuff. There was also some great unreleased root work. Excellent team!! Kena - Bubble burst: All aspects - but great support and help from the team including Jerome Hereng and Ben Boniface! There were also some additional embers etc. in the shot - this was done by the client (I think). Marvel - Energy Beams: All my work, minus one sequencer integration done by Minh Nguyên - Great work by him! This was done with a custom mesh/uv setup - highly optimized and easy to use compared to some Niagara based alternatives. Hulk energy flow and burst: All aspects - including providing great technical integration flexibility for various format/pipeline requests. Splash Pack: An Unreal Engine Marketplace solo development. For more info: 🤍 Cloth destruction: A VAT method. I believe it to be far more optimized than “in game simulations”. A downloaded texture was used. Tubular Humanoids, Snake Chases, Damage/Healing/Morphing/Simulation and Entrails: Interesting experiments thought to be unique or rare at the times of creation. I have since seen others do very similar work in (in some aspects). I think my “reforming” functionality and skin breaking/healing skin based on animated tube thickness are still somewhat rare if not totally unique.. for now, haha. Mixamo was used for mocap data, and skin layers. A downloaded anatomical model was partially used, I highly modified it. Quixel was used for other textures. I labeled these sections as "All Aspects". However, "All VFX Aspects" is a better description. Floating girl: Just a bit of creative fun. Not too much gameplay thought or great purpose involved, just loosening up.. I made the character with “Character Creator” (highly automated). Centerpiece with a galaxy projection: I was the creative designer and real-time visualizer for this piece. I was working at Laservision Mega Media when I designed it for our client. Check out the final result! 🤍 Marvel - Sunrays: Standard lighting and post process methods were initially not meeting approval. I made a simple custom solution - showcasing my ability to work with subtly Trippy Tree: Not too complicated - I see it as a good talking point and the breakdown can be easier for some to understand (if other VFX pipelines seem confusing). It's simple - but I like it.. Quixel textures were used. Falling Mist: My 3D visualization of a concept design by Lloyd Weir. I used Cascade (long ago before Niagara), I did most of the modelling for “arch viz”. I used characters from turbosquid. Optimization and hardware overview: Most personal work is shown from a Laptop (3070ti). Basically - an empty scene is about 16.67 ms, and I generally don’t drop far below (if at all). There are also shots from other computers, and there are compromises and exceptions such as lighting ms, cine renders etc. AAA work is longer story... Disclaimers and boring stuff: I was unable to release the full shots or breakdowns of the included AAA\studio work due to strict studio policies. There has also been much unreleased, RnD, behind the scenes AAA work that I am unable to share due to IP and NDAs. Terms such as “all aspects” may not include things such as Unreal Engine templates and starter content, Quixel Textures and Mixamo etc. You will find specifics on this in the "Shot Descriptions:" section. “All made with Unreal Engine” does not include Houdini editor\interface breakdown shots. My AAA\Studio VFX assets may have been further "touched" without me being informed, but not to the point of any observable\obvious visual differences. More info and documentation on AAA\Studio work is available for studios and clients.

In May 2020, Epic Games provided a first look at Unreal Engine 5 through “Lumen in the Land of Nanite,” a real-time demo running live on PlayStation 5. Prior to this, in January 2020, we went behind the scenes with the team at Epic to discover the inspiration for Niagara, a node-based programmable VFX system that helps you to create everything from particle effects to fluid simulations and flocking behaviors. Looking to generate the same type of effects used in Fortnite or create more compelling cinematics? Niagara has you covered. Want to know more? Get a further look at the game development tools of Unreal Engine 5 on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10 AM EDT on YouTube.com/UnrealEngine.
